Wore a geeky costume for Halloween. I did do the Star Trek costume, and it was great: moves well, neither too warm nor too cool for late October, no danger of wardrobe malfunction because I am not Captain Kirk, and everyone knows what it is. Strangers kept giving me the Vulcan salute. ( Halloweek social calendar recap )
Did community radio. Basically I signed up to replace Ced when he took off to HK, although not strictly in his time slot as I speak Mandarin, and also have no idea what i'm doing. Thursday night was meant to be another "training session" but rapidly turned into "err half the volunteers haven't shown up, do you feel up to blithering about the Coco Chanel movie on air for a few minutes" orz. The other girls are cool, though, and I have been made arts correspondent because I am obviously "hip" and "plugged into the local scene" (community radio is supposed to play local indie music as a matter of policy; I gather Ced was handling this part as well). Chinese ppl being Chinese ppl the Local Attractions segment also includes restaurant reviews i.e. we have instituted a weekly foodie group, CANNOT LOSE. The technical aspect of the thing is fun too, for whatever reason I feel like I'm really taking to it despite being A/V equipment-onchi normally.
(I think I have mentioned this but ppl have told me I ought to do radio/presenting all my life. Finally after ELLEN FREAKING KUSHNER said this I was like, fuck, OK, I have got to try it. orz So that is 102.3FM Radio Centre-Ville, TTH 10:30PM, if you're in town.***)
Signed up for Yuletide. Are we allowed to post a final list of what we're offering? Or is that not kosher? I ask because I would like to spread the lulz around, but probably I'll take it to carnet (if I get someone I know there I would be astonished). XD; I was insanely picky about my offers and the Novikware probably hates me at this point but at least I'm confident of delivering the goods. Note that it took me about four years to come to terms enough with the idea of an anonymous pan-fandom exchange even to READ THE STORIES, and then during b-school forget it, of course.
NaSomethingWriMo proceeds apace, but more on that later.
EDIT -- Made Skittles vodka. Forgot about this one ahahaha. I first heard about this on the Peter Doherty fan forum lol it is all the rage. Great time of year for it of course (deals on bulk candy). However dude on Instructable was right, the red flavour is liable to taste like cough syrup particularly if you use unsmooth downmarket vodka. T_T
TONIGHT: Art loft party w/ open mikes and workshops! I'm bringing sketchbook and Skittles vodka, friends are bringing ukelele and musical saw.

*** And, uh, speak Mandarin. Hey, I figure it's trial by fire - if I can manage talk radio and DJing in Chinese an English podcast ought to be no problemo.
One day I had this dream - it was so vivid and clear that I woke up early in the morning reaching for my sketchbook to get it down. But the sketchbook was too far away and I fell asleep again. However, I kept waking up remembering this particular dream and at one point I finally got to my table and drew it out. This is probably the closest thing to the actual dream that I was able to draw out.

Ugh, feel so sleeeeeepy. Proctored the SATs this morning, which is a good amount of easy money, but on the other hand means i have to get up and go to school like normal for a 6th day in a row. My favorite part is telling the kids that if their phone makes any noise, or they're even seen with it, they get kicked out. They're always like "I CANT HAVE MY PHONE TURNED OFF I'LL DIE" and then I'm like "you can make it for six hours", and they're like "SIX HOURS?! HOW LONG IS THIS TEST?!!!"
Lack of preparation, thy name is high school student. This makes me a jerk, but I enjoy the fact there's still something like the SATs that kids can actually fail which impacts their future, because in regular public education we spend all our time telling students how everyone is a winner. EVERYONE IS A NOT A WINNER. SOME PEOPLE ARE LOSERS. SO SORRY, GO STUDY SOMETHING.
I failed utterly at writing again last night (see earlier note about sleeeeepy) and now have a couple hours to make it up before I decide if I can stop long enough to see some movie or other with my father and brother.

Been forever and a day... or a month and a week... since I last updated this. Ah well, lets get started:
Family: In the time it's taken since I last posted, we got two dogs, lost them in a storm, found them, and gave them back. This, according to my father, was my mother's 'test' in order to get a new dog, which I am 120% against. Not to worry though, she failed it with flying colors. Not only did she drink during the time we had the dogs (a few times), but she also LOST THE DOGS DURING A HUGE STORM. One came home, the other? Caught by the pound. They were both returned safe and sound and I snapped at my family to not do something so foolish again. I don't mind if they wanna ruin their own lives, but bringing more people into this loony bin is just wrong. Speaking of crazy, Christmas is almost here... already. Present swing in full effect... which also means I need to update my x-mas card list. X_x
Friends: Found out some truths about friends and their feelings lately... and it wasn't exactly easy to hear. I think that's what makes it all the more touching though, that the truth was what I got. I want them to know I appreciate it, truly. I think that being able to tell someone something that you know might hurt them or your friendship, and trusting them enough to be able to accept it and realize you just want the best for them, really says volumes about one's character. Yeah, I'm speaking about one person in particular, and they know who they are. What they said's still in my head, but mostly 'cause I think they're just awesome for having said it.
On an unrelated note, due to the insanity that's been the last couple of weeks, I've been kinda off as far as my gaming goes. I wanna apologize for that guys, and I'll do my best (now that things are going better) to be the best team mate I can be. I hope you guys weren't too terribly annoyed, and thank you all for stickin' by me and helping me through. You guys rock.
Boyfriend: We've had a rollercoaster time, and it's almost our 11 month. Mostly though? Good times. I'm very happy to have him in my life, and while nothing is perfect, I think we balance each other pretty well. I'm the Yin to his Yang, and as corny as it sounds, I like the idea that we complete each other. Recently, we were just resting for a while, and he told me I'm more than just his girl, I'm his best friend. Is it odd that I put this on the same level as when he says he loves me? It really made my day.
Work: *Drum roll please* ........ I got the promotion! The one... I should've gotten... a couple years ago. Well, nevermind that, I'm not gonna let that steal my thunder! Although my coworker's doing her best to. She calls me a bossy bitch, screaming at me in my department... which, is unprofessional, but okay, we can work on communication issues. Lately though, she's been on the warpath in every way imaginable. She dogs me to my coworkers, and recently I've learned she's making fun of my personal appearance. According to my source, which seems reliable enough, she's making fun of my breasts. How effed up is that? Claiming that they cause me to lumber around, etc... 'cause they're too big. *Rolls her eyes* On top of that, she says she refuses to do certain aspects of her job, because she's 'upset'. Apparently she wanted the promotion, although another manager tells me she only started to want it after she found out I was being considered for it.
I have no idea what I did to make this woman so angry, but whatever it was, holy hell I did it wrong.
So, upper management's going to have a talk with her... *the* talk. As in, behave respectfully and professionally, do what your new boss tells you, and quit acting like a child.... or gtfo.
I really hope she just gets over whatever grudge she's holding against me. She's second in sales in the department, and the other two just don't produce (although they are VERY good task-oriented worker bees). Either way, I need someone who's good in sales... Although I am very aware you can't make someone like you, and no matter how much I'd like her to stay and work with me in the department, I can't allow her to treat me like a doormat every time she feels insecure.
I've been feeling a lot better though after yesterday, when my boss had a talk with me about this whole fiasco, reassuring me that I'd done nothing wrong and I'm doing a very good job. Thanks Mr. R! (Who... doesn't read this journal, but I'm gonna thank him anyways...)
That reminds me, I gotta get my next boss up (assistant manager Joe) a thank you card. He really pushed for me to get the promotion and always has my back.
Hm... beyond that? Not too much going on... I've discovered that Batman: The Animated Series is easily accessible (Thank you Hulu!) So, I've been having a Batmanathon. *Squee!* They even have my favorite episode! Almost got 'im.
Anywho, t'wrap this up, ups and downs happen, but for the most part, I'm pretty happy. Got lotsa sleep last night, and I feel like I'm in a better mindset than I've been in weeks. I hope everyone's doing well, and leave with this:

MUST WRITE. ugh so tired. After staying up until forever Wednesday night, last night i passed out in the middle of Supernatural and totally missed the last half of it, and then woke up in a total panic because my stupid smoke detector was going off for no reason AGAIN.
But I'm really enjoying rewatching Millenium, I'm on the fourth disc of the 1st season. Amazon Sci-Fi sale win!

I'm trying to get to public computers of one sort or another at least every 2-3 days now, so eventually I might catch up on things. Who knows. Back to my October reading list! (I know, I know, I go away for a year and when I come back, I decide to write really boring entries. In my defense I am trying to rebuild my old life and it was pretty dull! AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY okay, well, perhaps we didn't, but we certainly appreciate it now.)

This is less momentous than it seems as I suspect no one on my flist will care much about/for the stuff I am offering or requesting. Erm although I'm gonna offer for 24 Hour Party People for sheer ROFTLCOPTER value, just to see if I will actually be asked to write horrifying Tony Wilson/Rob Gretton slash.***

I usually sign up to write for every fandom I've ever heard of, but this year I've decided to narrow down and only offer things I feel passionate about. Also, True Blood is in Yuletide! I feel like it's probably too big, but it's too late to change now, and so I am excited.
