lonelyJust finished reading Shinshi Doumei Cross, which teaches an extremely important life lesson: No matter how prone a family may be to locking its children in basements, there's no situation so direly fucked up that it can't be fixed with a semi-incestuous ménage à trois.
...No, really.
Today a lot of weird stuff happened.
*Dermatologist bifurcated the wart a lot more (OW MOTHERFUCKING OW), but while she was doing it, she mentioned that some girl Korean group was on So You Think You Can Dance last night, and I was like "Wonder Girls?" cause that's the only girl group I know, and she said yes, that was it! So completely bizarre.
*w-inds. sang Doushite, which...seriously, so much love. sometimes in all the JE frenzy I forget how much I love w-inds., and then they show back up with THIS. Hentai-kun, never change.
*Kisumai had a pairings contest or something, and Tama/Miyata came in 5th, whereupon Miyata's comment was "something I did with Tama lately? I can't say it here~!" Also Nikaido/Senga came in 7th and Nika was all indignant they didn't make the top three. I need so much fic about all of this.
*I only slept a couple hours last night because I couldn't stop thinking about stuff, so fail. At least tomorrow's Friday D:

I was fanning before I knew what fanning was, long before I ever got online. In early high school, thanks to my town library's "YA*" paperback collection, I got into Star Trek (TOS, mostly) novels; they were my first exposure to fanfic, in particular the really gooey/sappy/smarmy/pre-slashy stuff that I'd always thought of as the "good bits" - usually a few paragraphs, at best a page or two of most books (except Lord of the Rings, which is crammed full of it). I used to keep a notebook noting the page numbers of my favorite bits. But in some of the Star Trek novels the yumminess (usually h/c) just went on and on - at least in the earlier novels; the later ones, not so much. But some of the first were most definitely written by fangirls - at the time I didn't know it; I just knew that what I was reading, while noticeably inferior in elements like plot and prose, was catering to certain tastes of mine more precisely than any book I'd read before.
* "YA" at my library apparently meant either "teen characters" or "sci-fi paperback". I think they got a sci-fi section later, but through my early teen years finding SF was a matter of browsing the unorganized paperback racks. Then I discovered 2nd-hand bookstores...
So it cracked me up when I was on Fanlore today and found that Killing Time was penned by a K/S writer who slipped what was in effect a pre-slash story past the Paramount censors by mysterious means. What gets me is that I remember this novel well - it's one of the dozen or so I bought for myself rather than just rereading the library's copy. I remember at the time of first reading it that I both adored it and thought it over the top in that ridiculous way that made me all deliciously squirmy (It involves a Romulan-made alternate time-line, in which, iffen I recall, the "golden-haired, golden-eyed" Kirk was an oft-abused drug-addict. And Spock was dreaming about him. Yeah.) Now I'm wondering if I actually read the original. Just checked and the copy I have now is the edited version, but I'm curious about the library's copy...
ETA: For my own reference: all the censored bits! (and maybe I'm hallucinating, but I swear I remember some of them...)
ETA2: And here we have a conversation about Kirk/Spock-y Star Trek novels! Should I be embarrassed or proud that almost every novel that's mentioned here is in my "dozen or so" collection? And that I want to reread them? (Nice to see Diane Duane getting credit, her take on the ST 'verse was awesome, love her aliens. --Zomg other folks like Dwellers in the Crucible! Which is really about a pair of female OCs who parallel Kirk & Spock...that being said, it is hands-down the most extreme h/c I have ever read between female chars. Am wanting to reread it just for that...(need to see Xena...))
Things are poor at the job, to be blunt, and I wish I could even dredge up some shock at this point, but mostly I'm just thinking about whether hunting for a new job will suck more than having this one. At one point, I was actually standing there thinking that I wished I'd stayed in Vermont.
Which, for those of you who remember me in VT...yeah. Not a good sign.
I cleaned out the guinea pig and the rat though, which was vaguely pointless because I'll just have to do it again right before Beth shows up next week, but whatever. Also the rat has a lump and I think it's the bad kind cause it's been there a while. And I'm a terrible person, because the rat is 2 years old now, which is all that rats live, and really i'm just thinking to myself how much more convenient it'd be if I only had to drag the guinea pig over to my parents. Sorry, Massu D:

indifferentI call this a Christmas Cookie, but of course, it is not yet Christmas and of course it is not my present to you all!
My present to you all is a short story called Nick's First Word and I have sent it off to my web designer, so it should be up some time between now and Christmas, and I hope you will enjoy it! But this is not that story.
Since I put up the first chapter last month on this day, it has become Official Cookie Day, and thus you are due a cookie.
I chose this bit of The Demon's Covenant because it has lots of Nick in it, and chapter one cruelly deprived those who like that sort of thing. Feedback on what sort of thing you wish for in Cookies of the Future much desired.
